What is LAMP?

Trinity Lutheran’s L.A.M.P. Canada mission purpose is to share the gospel message to the communities of northern British Columbia, Canada.  We are leaving on July 13, 2012 and return on July 23, 2012.

This effort will serve again to support the outreach efforts of the Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots in northern Canada as well as to continue the mission of this church to spread the message of the Lord to all people. This cross-cultural ministry is a “hands on” effort to share the Gospel message creatively through Vacation Bible School for kids and personally through local service projects and Bible studies with the people but especially with the disadvantaged children and their families living in this remote area of Canada.

See below for more information.

The Details

The trip destination, the South Hazelton area of British Columbia, has a high unemployment rate where declines in the timber industry have left the town with substantial economic troubles. The few local churches around are without funds to pay pastors or keep their doors open. Access to quality programs, such as Vacation Bible School, are currently very limited or even non-existent for local children. Many of the families we serve are Native American members of the Gitsan Tribe.  A significant number of the people struggle with alcohol and substance abuse issues, which impact their children’s lives at all levels—personal, emotional, and spiritual. Trinity Lutheran’s VBS program helps kids to feel truly loved and appreciated just as they are and for who they are—precious gifts from God! It’s also a time for us to share the Gospel message in a positive and meaningful way, so that entire families can form personal relationships with Christ.

Our youth and adult volunteers live out of tents in unfamiliar surroundings, are away from their families for ten days, and work long hours to bring the message of the Lord to the people of the far north. They’ve also made financial sacrifices by paying their own registration and program participation fees “out-of-pocket” as an outward sign of their personal commitment to this worthy cause.

Please see our list of needs at our table in the narthex of the church.  Examples of gifts-in-kind include cooking and camp supplies, food, and fuel vouchers.
